Introduction

Born in 1988, Canon lens EF 24mm f / 2.8 deserves to be called “great grandparent” of new life lens today. DuyTom was fortunate to have a chance to test the technology of approximate 30 years ago. Canon EF 24mm f/2.8 have no Image Stabilization, no supersonic motor. It still creates reasonably good images though, except that each time it autofocus, the body sounds crack and crack... like teeth grinding as it may be broken

When shooting architecture and landscapes, Canon EF 24mm f / 2.8 for quite a sharp image. But even considering the same price new model lenses, e.g 24-105 f / 3.5 - 5.6 STM, it’s not only less than a level of sharpness, but also less versatile.

Autofocus system Canon EF 24mm f / 2.8 is quite good. Nothing worth complaining. However, while focusing, motor sounds loudly. For those who love classic, this creak sound is quite interesting. In contrast, with someone like new technologies, autofocus is like silky smooth arms, they will not be excited.

people/portrait:  not scoring

Canon EF 24mm f / 2.8 was born for landscape/architecture photographs, not for taking photographs of people. When taking portrait, the color is poor and faded. Pictures are not sharp

Sports / high speed: Not scoring

Nobody uses this lens for sport activities

Ergonomic

7 points

Canon EF 24mm f / 2.8 is very small, in the form of a dwarf. Even be attached hood, it still looks so small. This is one of Canon's smallest lenses. You absolutely can fit it in your pocket. Lens is not solid, and the design isn’t beautiful too

SUGGESTION

If you just need to shoot landscapes, your funds is in the range of 300$, you can consider this lens. When selected, always choose the new lens (Canon EF 24mm f / 2.8 was produced from 1988 to 2012). And if you like multi-purpose lens in the range of 5 million, there are many other better choices
