Canon EF 35mm f/1.4 L is truly a masterpiece! This lens is superb: super-sharp, super nice color, great bokeh, almost no distortion, ultra-durable, and the price is very reasonable. Although it was born in 1998, this lens is still $1200 now, similar to the Canon 50mm f/1.2 and a little less than 85mm f/1.2. Until now (2015), 17 years after its debut, Canon hasn’t yet produced the version 2.0. Simply, Canon EF 35mm f/1.4 L is too good and almost perfect. In the "land” of 35mm which is too crowded and there are so many talents such as the Sigma 35mm f/1.4, Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 II,... Canon EF 35mm f/1.4 L USM still affirm the value and stand still until now.
When taking one or two photos at first, you will not have any impression. But just after one or two shooting sessions, you will be totally convinced. Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L gives you a feeling of confidence, that your pictures will be very sharp, and the color is so beautiful. Your job is just thinking of new creative ideas.
There’re rumours that version II of Canon EF 35mm f / 1.4 L will be launched in this year (2015), and the price will be around $2000.

Canon EF 35mm f/1.4 L creates wonderful landscape and architecture photos. Pictures are clear, sharp, extremely detailed and splendid. The only reason that it isn’t equal to Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8 II is the focal length doesn’t reach 16mm. The image quality of Canon EF 35mm f/1.4 L is almost equivalent. Even if you take a quite long exposure, handheld with a high ISO 1600, the image is still extremely sharp. The lens doesn't have image stabilization, but you still can easily take photographs with 1/15 second shutter speed without any problem.

Canon EF 35mm f / 1.4 L is super sharp. The below picture magnifies a very small part of the photo, however, we still clearly see the detailed tables and chairs, a bar and many people from the inside.

Colour quality is equivalent to Canon 50mm f/1.2. Even you are an amateur, Canon EF 35mm f/1.4 L will support you very much indeed.
Especially, the situations in which we don't know much about space, background, people... e.g. company events, wedding parties... that's the moment Canon EF 35mm f/1.4 L will shine. Your products always are colourful, shimmering pictures. Meanwhile, if you use the worse lens, the result you get may be a pile of out-net, out-focus, blur or dark photos.

Sport/high speed: not scoring
This is not the Canon EF 35mm f/1.4 L strength because the angle is too wide. When trying to capture sports, we'll get the picture as below. And of course, that's not the result which people expect in a sport picture: zooms in athletes, capture the moment, muscle movement ...!

Canon EF 35mm f / 1.4 L can capture tiny details of a millimetre (like a toothpick with a diameter of 2 mm).
Ergonomics:
Canon EF 35mm f/1.4 L weighs a half of kg, 8cm length so it’s very compact. The focus ring is so big, you just need one finger to rotate the manual button and auto button. The focus mode switch located just below the thumb. Canon 35mm f/1.4L made of mostly metal, not as modern lenses today, with a lot of plastic
SUGGESTION
The reason for Canon had long delayed the second version of Canon EF 35mm f 2 / 1.4 L is the lens is so good, almost no deficiency point to be improved. And if the second version is born, the price may be up to $2000. Canon EF 35mm f / 1.4 L has wonderful colours, is ultra sharp and multi-use. If you have enough money and would like to take portrait and landscape photos, you can select Canon EF 35mm right f / 1.4 L. Canon EF 35mm f/1.4 is equal to Canon EF 50mm f/1.2 in term of quality
You should not select Canon EF 35mm f / 1.4 L in case you like shooting sports or animals.
If you shoot landscapes and architectures only, 16-35mm f / 2.8 II or 16-35mm f / 4 IS would be a better choice, because these lenses give more wide angles.
